The new 2023 GMC Yukon from General Motors features a sleeker interior, fancier trims and several other upgrades. Here's what's new with the Denali Ultimate.

The 2023 GMC Yukon drives like a dream. It offers three formidable engine options, an easy-to-use infotainment system and ample passenger and cargo space. Its transmission could be faster on the downshift, though, and the seats are a bit on the firmer side. Here’s all you need to know about the 2023 GMC Yukon.

What’s New for the 2023 GMC Yukon?

The mechanical aspects of the 2023 GMC Yukon remain largely the same as the 2022 model. However, GMC made two important additions. GM debuted Denali Ultimate, the 2023 flagship trim that replaces Denali, the top-tier trim for the 2022 model.

Second, the Denali and Denali Ultimate trims will both feature Super Cruise, the carmaker’s partially automated driving system. Here are the major changes the GMC Yukon has undergone in recent years:

  • 2023: debuts flagship GMC Ultimate trim; Super Cruise available on top trims
  • 2022: 6.2-liter V8 made available in AT4 trim; 12-inch digital gauge cluster comes standard
  • 2021: AT4 trim debuted; complete redesign with new engine choices, new exterior and interior styling, additional space for passengers/cargo, and a new 10-speed automatic transmission
  • 2018: 10-speed automatic transmission available on Denali trim

There were no major changes in 2019 and 2020. You can shop older pre-owned GMC Yukon models at Bruner GM Stephenville.

The 2023 GMC Yukon is an Excellent SUV

The 2023 GMC Yukon is an excellent SUV, capable of ferrying several passengers and hauling plenty of cargo. All three seat rows have adequate space for adults, and passengers can stay entertained thanks to standard tech features. Performance is good, with capable handling, and three potent engine options are available.

It’s not perfect, though. At higher speeds, you may experience slight body roll. The downshift transmission may be a bit slow, and not everyone is a fan of the firm seats. Nonetheless, the Yukon is an fantastic option if you’re looking for a family-friendly luxury SUV with best-in-class cargo space and three adult-friendly seating rows.

Which 2023 GMC Yukon Model Should I Buy?

The 2023 GMC Yukon has five trims: Denali Ultimate, Denali, AT4, SLT and SLE. The standard engine is the 355-horsepower V8; the other options are a 420-horsepower V8 and a 277-horsepower turbodiesel six-cylinder. All three engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Denali, SLT and SLE trims, whereas the Denali Ultimate and AT4 come standard with four-wheel drive, which is optional on all other models.

Many shoppers prefer the base SLE trim because it features several standard tech features and a good selection of additional options. Moreover, it’s the only 2023 GMC Yukon model that can accommodate up to 9 people. All the other trims carry 7–8 people, depending on the configuration.
