There are various things to consider when purchasing a car. From the interior to exciting new features, it’s important to take various factors into account before signing off on your new vehicle. This especially holds true when finding an engine that suits your needs.

Car enthusiasts know that different models require different engines. While a luxury sports car may be fitted with an eight-cylinder or above, smaller cars tend to be fitted with a three-cylinder engine.

And while lots of manufacturing companies are focusing their efforts on developing electric technology, big players in the industry still haven’t forgotten about cars powered by gasoline – namely, General Motors.

New Engine for GM

General Motors is reportedly creating a new 2.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This is based on its previous 2.7. More interestingly, this project isn’t just starting. GM Authority announced that the 2.5 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is nearly finished – meaning that consumers can expect it to be available in the near future.

While the important technical details still haven’t been released yet, certain bits of information have been made available to help us better understand what we can expect from this exciting new engine. The 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be an addition to the Cylinder Set Strategy group of engines. It will reportedly contain dual overhead camshafts and be a very welcomed addition when it comes to gasoline-powered technology.

We still don’t know exactly which vehicles will be able to use this engine. While large vehicles such as pickup trucks likely won’t be fitted with this engine, people have started to question whether or not these could work with SUVs. No matter what the outcome is, it’s exciting to hear that GM is still developing traditional engines instead of only focusing on electric technology.

It’s important to note that General Motors hasn’t made this announcement. GM Authority has released this information and we’re all waiting to find out more. If the new engine truly is in the final stages of development, we should be finding out more about the future of car industry from GM soon.
